The Department of Higher Education & Lifelong Learning

The Department of Higher Education and Lifelong is a new area in the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture that was organized in September of 2004. This department is comprised of the following areas in the Ministry:

• Tertiary/Quality Assurance Division
• Scholarships and Educational Loans
• Bahamas Library Service
• National Literacy Services
• Bahamas Technical Cadet Corps

The overall goal of the department is to mold these six areas into a cohesive department of Higher Education and Lifelong Learning. To this end, the department has developed a Vision and Mission Statement, along with specific goals and objectives for the five areas.

VISION

To provide opportunities for adult learners to receive the knowledge and skills necessary for personal growth, self-sufficiency and participation in the global economy.

MISSION

To facilitate the development and implementation of an integrated and cohesive system of Higher Education designed to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic workforce, while ensuring quality, efficiency and accessibility for personal enrichment and lifelong learning for all.
