The Vision of the Unit is to provide information to assist in policy formulation and implementation, as well as in the dissemination of information to government and international agencies, NGOs and the general public. It also ensures that all statistical information emanating from the Ministry is valid and consistent.
Firstly, the Unit produces standard bodies of data that inform on the status and activities of the Ministry of Education. This is accomplished through the implementation of statistical data in a timely manner, the creation of databases capable of collecting, storing, collating and reporting statistics, the production of comprehensive statistical reports for the Ministry and by establishing effective communication with Section Heads to ensure efficient production of the Annual Report of the Ministry of Education.
Another achievement of the Unit is the research in areas of interest and concern to the development of education. Intra-island field work, using empirical data is conducted to measure the technical validity of decisions taken by the administration and to enhance the policy implementation process. Guidance, technical support and statistical information are provided for Master Teachers, university students and others wishing to conduct research on Education matters in The Bahamas. Private individuals or firms are also commissioned to conduct research on areas pertinent to the Ministry.
In order to assist the Ministry of Education with improving the delivery of education, the Unit advises on policy implementation/changes through the coordination and execution of regular meetings with senior executives in the Ministry. Additionally, the unit provides leadership in Strategic and Tactical Planning, Project Management, School Mapping and other similar planning based services.
