Management Information Systems

MIS Unit

The Management Information Systems (MIS) Unit is responsible for the installation, upkeep, maintenance and repair of hardware such as routers, wireless equipments, satellites and software in all departments of the Ministry of Education, including Libraries, Archives and all Government Schools in New Providence and the Family Islands.

In order to meet the demands of a multifaceted organization like the Ministry of Education, MIS has been outfitted with modern, state-of-the art equipment. Its amenities include:

  • High Speed Internet (Broadband) which allows fast and easy access to
    the Internet, independent of any local service providers;

  • Remote connections to the seven primary schools which were connected
    in phase 1 of the Computerization Project;

  • A Central Database which collects information on all students in the
    seven primary schools. This has revolutionized the administration of
    school districts, as superintendents are now able to access the data base
    and resolve matters in an expeditious manner.

MIS will face additional challenges as Phase II of the Computerization Project is implemented. This will entail bringing Family Island schools online. Connections will then be remotely tested to ensure their effectiveness.

Whilst the task of computerization and the linkage of all areas of the Ministry of Education to a central Database is a mammoth undertaking, there is positive assurance from the high standard of work completed so far that the MIS Unit is ready to face the technology challenges of the 21st century.
