Introduction:

This district is referred to as “The Columbus Isles” because the great navigator’s 1492 landfall was within these islands.

The schools at Arthur’s Town, New Bight, United Estates and Port Nelson are among the oldest in The Bahamas. These have been operating continuously since the 1800’s.

Indeed Arthur’s Town High School was the second high school ever operated by the Government of The Bahamas. It’s record of success as a secondary institution of learning was unsurpassed. In addition to the usual subjects, it taught Latin and French.

School Motto:

“Non Scholae Sed Vitae Discimus”
“We Learn Not For School But For Life”

School Song:

“These Things Shall Be A Loftier Race”

The Principal who established Arthur’s Town School as a high school was Rodney Ezekiel Bain, who later served as Secretary to Cabinet of The Bahamas.
