Education Loan Authority

The Education Loan Authority was established by an Act of Parliament in the House of Assembly on Thursday 12 December, 2002. The Authority is charged with the responsibility of raising moneys for the Education Loan Guarantee Scheme, established under the Education Guarantee Fund Act, 2001 and also assumes all existing liabilities incurred by the Government of The Bahamas with regards to the Guarantee Loan Scheme, prior to the commencement of this Act.

After consultation with the Minister of Education, the Governor General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas appointed the Board of Directors established under the Education Guarantee Fund Act 2001. On August 12, 2003, the Authority’s office was fully staffed with a Chief Administrative Officer, Financial Officer, Executive Secretary and Receptionist/Filing Assistant. The office is located in the Police Credit Union Building on Collins Avenue.
