The International Desk Unit has responsibility for liaison with the following agencies:
The Desk acts as the focal point for these agencies on educational issues, projects, seminars and conferences;
UNESCO
The Bahamas National Commission was officially launched on May 11, 1998. It incorporates eight members representing the following constituencies:
- Department of Education
- Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture
- The Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas
- Ministry of Finance and Planning
- Bahamas Commission on Environment, Science and Technology
- The College of The Bahamas
- Chamber of Commerce
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The members of the National Commission hold meetings quarterly to present their reports and recommendations on the work of their committees, and projects, updates etc., and to be briefed on the business of the Commission, or to make recommendations to the Government regarding the area of competence.
OAS
The Organization of American States (OAS) is made up of 35 member states - the independent nations of North, Central, South America and The Caribbean. It strives among other things to ensure peace and security, strengthen democracy and advance human rights.
Commonwealth of Learning
The purpose of COL is to create and widen access to opportunities for learning, by promoting co-operation between universities colleges and other educational institutions throughout The Commonwealth, making use of the potential offered by distance education and by the application of communication technologies to education. COL's activities aim to strengthen member countries' capacity to develop the human resources required for their economic and social development.
CARICOM
The establishment of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) was the result of a fifteen year effort to fulfill the hope of regional integration which was born with the establishment of the British West Indies Federation in 1958. From its inception, the Community has concentrated on the promotion of the economies of Mmeber States, coordinating the foreign policies of the independent Member States. The Bahamas being a Member State has actively participated in many of CARICOM's activities (Meetings, Workshops and Conferences).
